(1) A doctrine that a person who endangers someone's life through negligence can also be held liable for injuries to anyone who tries to rescue the victim. (2) A doctrine that a person who tries to rescue a victim from danger caused by another's negligence cannot be charged with contributory negligence as a result of the rescue attempt, as long as the rescue is not reckless; also called humanitarian doctrine or good Samaritan doctrine
